Repair Rip Off

Telecommunications

The speaker on my new I- phone 5 stopped working after 2 months of receiving the telephone, so I could not hear the voice of anyone calling in. I took the phone in to Vodaphone in Century City Cape Town and they sent it to their repair centre. A few days later I received a call saying that the repair was not covered under warranty, which was in any case invalidated by the fact that there was a scratch on the back cover. As a result of this it would cost me R 4 000 to have the phone repaired/replaced. I said to them there was a very tiny scratch on the back of the telephone, certainly not a huge dent or anything to warrant cancellation of a warranty. The reply - well read your contract - our decision is in terms of the contract. I then said that I had been a subscriber to Vodaphone for over 20 years and had never had to replace or repair a telephone in all that time. The reply - well that is of no concern to us, you have damaged this one. (A minute scratch is damages???!!!) I retrieved the telephone and took it to a company called iFix in Gardens, Cape Town. They repaired the telephone for me the same day at a cost of R 349. Where is the loyalty to loyal customers!?
