Defect Samsung Galaxy S3

Telecommunications

I purchased a Samsung S3 on contract last year January. For the last 5 months I have been unable to make phone calls off my S3 and after 10seconds it shows as "not registered on network" there is no dial tone or anything though a person on the receiving end could sometimes hear me, everything else on the phone worked perfectly. I could not figure out why, neither could the MTN support center. I've subsequently sent it in for repairs and was informed it would take around 7 to 10 days of which I have had to purchase a replacement phone for the time being. It is now day 16 and every time I go through to fetch my phone I am told I would get it the next day and the next. I have researched the issue extensively and from what I gather there was a hardware problem with a batch of the first S3's manufactured. There was a motherboard fault which caused the symptoms above to occur. I do not mind the wait though I would really like to be updated on what is wrong with my phone and if this is in fact a motherboard fault I am going to be extremely upset if I have to pay for these repairs as I was handed a defective phone in the first place.
