Cancellation problems

Wanderers planet fitness was the closest gym to me and I had been with them for a year so decided it may be worth signing up with them. I went and saw a salesman and eventually agreed upon a sum of money of which I deposited, which was a lot more than expected. During my chat with the salesperson I was assured that I had 5 days cancellation period, no cancellation fees and my money would be refunded if need be. Overnight, I found a cheaper and closer gym and therefore decided to cancel. I went in the next day and did the cancellation procedure. A week later there was still no refund and this is when my problems first started. I went in to ask, and every time iv been there it has been the same response "Next week Friday". I have had little help phoning the club, with most of the time the financial sector unavailable. It has been since the beginning of February and still I do not have my refund. I used my credit card, and you can imagine, the fee was in the thousands and so my interest is having a wonderful time. Please, all I want is my money back, does it have to be so difficult?
