Cancelling contact - they wont reimburse me

I took out a 3 year contact 12 months ago on a pay as you go. ie paid up 3 years. I told the consultant that I might be terminating my contact early and he said not a problem. Whatever I dont use they will reimburse me.

Now I come to cancel my contract and they say because its not specifically mentioned on the contract they don't do reimbursements. Its against the company policy.

Why did the consultant to me! I would never have take out the contact if this was the case.
