Ineffective cancellation process

I have emailed planet fitness customer services regarding the cancellation of my membership. Apparently I am to receive a response within 48 hours. Due to the elusive nature of this process and the fact that my branch won't help because cancellations are only done through the head office, I decided to call the client services center, BIG MISTAKE! I was put on hold for a very long time.
I have moved cities and would like to join a new gym. Can someone please help!
