Discount requires additional fees

I was informed that as a employee of a company, Virgin Active will give me a 10% discount on my monthly fee (I am an existing member). I contacted the Call centre and was informed to take my payslip to the club. The club then informs me that I need to pay a joing fee of R150. I contacted the call centre again and was informed that this is due to a new membership and my existing membership must be cancelled. I find this to be illogical, to obtain a discount you need to pay!!!
