In January 2013 my wife had just completed her shopping at Checkers and was pushing the trolley back to the car when the wheel came off the trolley causing her to fall and sustain a serious cut and bruising. We emailed Checkers and received a call asking us to come into the store. on asking to see the manager we were shuttled off to an underling who simply asked us to write a report which we sent off. Despite a number of emails to Checkers we have not had any response from them. I subsequently phoned the head office in Cape Town and spoke to Dean who is supposed to be in their Customer Care Dept. He assured me that they had received our emails and that the manager of the branch was "investigating" the matter and that Checkers would get back to us. Two months later NO RESPONSE at all. The photos of the trolley, my wife's leg, her subsequent scar all tell an interesting tale. It would seem as though Checkers want this matter to follow the legal route as they are aware that most consumers cannot afford to pay the legal costs involved in challenging them. I will take my paltry R4000pm and go to Pick n Pay and will encourage all my associates to do likewise. Shocking service Checkers!
