And now your gift voucher has disappeared

On Thursday 28 Febr 2013 I bought 5 pairs of Bermuda shorts (size 34) from Makro Vaal and paid R995 for it (R895 debit card and R100 gift voucher). On Tuesday 5 March 2013 I brought them back to exchange them for a bigger size. I got a credit note for it and went to pick out 5 bigger pants all for the same price. At the till I was told that the voucher was not valid anymore as I have used it on 28 Febr and now I had to pay R100 extra again. I spoke to the "till manager", the return dept. manager and another "type" of manager who all said they cannot help me. I was told I could pay the R100, take less or get my money back. I took my money back and left the store. My question is where did the R100 disappeared to and why must I pay it?
