Exchange same boots, different size, forfeit vouch

On Friday (31 May) I bought a pair of boots for R599 at Tygervalley with a R100 discount gift voucher thus costing me R499. However, I decided to exchange the boots that was a size 7 for a size 8, still the SAME boots at Paarl Mall on Monday 3 June 2013. When I received the new receipt I saw that the R100 gift voucher was taken back and that the boots was it's original price of R599. Upon query the staff at Truworths mall said that the staff at Tygervalley should have informed me that if I should return the item for something else, I would forfeit my gift voucher, which they did not do. I just can't understand how you can forfeit your voucher if you exchange the SAME item just for a different size. If I can't get my R100 voucher back, I'm most certainly going to return the boots and never shop at Truworths again.
