Cordless Phone Faulty

I purchased a Panasonic KX-TG2511 cordless phone from the crown mines store today only to find that the unit did not seem to charge when plugged in at home. I also noticed that the box did not appear to have any seal on it and neither did it contain any user manual as I would expect from a new product. Upon further inspection of the phones base unit I noticed a sticker on the underside which read "Makro Crown 016630" which leads me to believe that this unit was either previously defective and repaired and I was not made aware of this as I took the product off the shelf with the expectation that I was purchasing a new product. I would like further guidance on how to proceed with this as I would like to have my phone exchanged for a new one.
