No warranty on warranty claim??!!!

I bought a Ryobi petrol lawnmower at Kuruman Midas in November 2012. From the start there were problems with the lawnmower. It struggled to start and kept flooding. I even went to Midas Kuruman a week later after mowing the lawn ONCE to get a new sparkplug to see if that works. The problems continued. I simply did not have the time to go back to Midas to return the lawnmower and only got around to returning it in October 2013. This was within the warranty period. They phoned me THREE weeks later just to tell me I have to pay about R400 to have it fixed??!!! They say that it is all service parts and I have to pay it. This is absolutely absurd and unacceptable. Why put a warranty on an item if its not worth the paper it is written on???
I did not use the lawnmower more than 5 times and every time it was a struggle. I had to have a lawnmower borrowed from a friend for the last 4 months. If they cannot see the lawnmower was hardly used, they are blind. Midas keeps blaming Ryobi and refuses to stand by their product!!!
