WHY SERVICE LAWNMOWER WHEN ENGINE FINISHED

Miscellaneous

Incident 31/12/2013
I said that the lawn mower was blowing smoke and would not start.
Please to fix it, service it and sharpen the blades.
No further communication was received and was told to collect lawnmower.
On collecting the lawnmower, the mechanic that assisted me loading the lawn mower said the engine is finished. I asked the Service Manager why did they sharpen blades and service the lawnmower if the lawn mower is now at the end of it's viable life? I was told that they had to service it to get it to start (mumble overfilled oil/accept the oil was still overfilled?)
He also stated there was some life in it, but I would have to be prepared to place the engine within the year. When starting the lawnmower at home, it was obvious, it was smoking badly and simply cut out.
I then took it to the main agent of the lawnmower and they said the engine had to be replaced.
So my complaint is why did I have to pay MOWERS DURBANVILLE R600.00 for work on a lawnmower that the mechanic had obviously realized needed complete replacing? Excluding sharpening blade.
MOWERS DURBANVILLE does not seem to me, to be giving an honest service report prior to carrying out unnecessary work.
