Pick 'n Pay
Sold wrong airtime and refused a refund

Shops, Products, Services

On Saturday 1 February, I went to Pick 'n Pay in Rondebosch to buy R150 of Telkom Mobile airtime for my internet dongle. Instead, I was sold airtime for Telkom landline. When I went back to the store to exchange it, I was told that I could not be given a refund and they would have to try resell it on my behalf. It was basically implied it was my fault for asking for Telkom Mobile and not asking for 8ta.

I find it inexcusable that months after 8ta had changed its name to Telkom Mobile, that I as the customer am expected to bear the risk of Pick 'n Pay not having updated its system to reflect that 8ta is now known as Telkom Mobile. How could they not have informed their cashiers? The website now says Telkom Mobile. All the 8ta shops have been rebranded Telkom Mobile. When I asked the Woolworths cashier out of interest what their system said, it said Telkom Mobile.

Instead of kicking up a fuss at the time, I agreed to let the manager attempt to resell the landline airtime after he assured me that they sell roughly R4000 of Telkom landline airtime a day. I expected this would mean I would hear back from them soon. However I am still waiting nearly two days later.
