Thank you points not allocated as indicated in sms

Customers received an sms stating accounts have been credited with 50 000 thank you points to use for the period 21 September to 24 September 2013. When I went to the store to buy with these points on the 22 September, the points were not allocated to my account. i phoned customer care THREE times, where they said the points will be allocated. On the 24 September, these points were still not allocated to my account, where the person at the call centre told me to go in store to allocate.
My question... is this not misleading/illegal to advertise false promises and not delivering to customers??
Why do I get different stories each time from customer care??
