Paying for FREE product

I went to the Grove Shopping centre to buy a kettle. They had a Mellerware Titan 1.7l kettle for R299 and on the other side the same kettle in a slighter bigger box with a FREE filter fridge jug with no price marked. I took the box to tillpoint only to find out that the same kettle with a FREE jug is R429.The box is also clearly marked FREE JUG INCLUDED. When i enquired with the store manager, why the prices varies, she said it has to do with the supplier pricing. This is a rip-off ; how many unsuspecting customer bought the kettle for R429, thinking they receiving a free jug but in fact paid an additional R130 for it. I need to understand what pricing method is used here?
