How equal are we?

I walked into checkers liquors with a friend who was purchasing wine. We picked up the wine and headed to the till point when arriving at the till point my friend was asked for her ID document she produced it and proceeded to pay for her wine. The cashier then turns to me to ask for my ID which i could not understand as i was not purchasing anything i was just accompanying my friend. I quietly proceeded to give her my ID she looked at me and then threw my ID document back at me. She was very rude and unfriendly which upset me. We left the store feeling upset and unhappy about our experience. As an entrepreneur my business revolves around making trips to the bottle store for cakes which require brandy and liquers and also dishes which require wine. If that's the service the locals get then i don't recommend it to anyone.
