Misleading goods exchange policy

I purchased 2 mens sweaters on the 20 Dec 2013, as a Christmas gift at R100 for 2. Unfortunately it was to big and on the 29th I returned it for a direct swop for smaller sizes. I was expected to pay a R60 difference of the normal vs the promotional price I paid. I had the manager called and asked for an explaination as to why the store is insisting I pay the difference if I was not told upfront on purchasing the items that the price is only valid for exchange whilest the promotion is running whilst a huge board displayed behind the tills state " If you not completely happy with your purchase we will gladly exchange it"!!!

I was given the option of paying the difference or taking my R100 back!
