A Safeway waffle maker was given to me as a present for Christmas, when I opened the box I could see the handle was broken terribly so I did not proceed to open the box any further. I took the product, in its box, to Clicks in Bloemfontein at the Dynarc Walk to exchange the product. Vivian Ngakatau had an assistant open the box in front of me, pieces falling to the floor as she did and the assitant said that it looked like it had fallen. Vivian proceeded by agreeing that it looks like it had fallen and that I had dropped it. She raised her voice to myself and my husband saying that she will not exchange it. Some of her co-workers (three of them, all women) asked her to calm down and not be so rude to the customers. I requested to have the product back to send it to Mossel bay to have it exchanged there. Vivian was reluctant to pack it up as she said that she did not unpack it. She was unable to put it back in the box due to all the many broken pieces. That alone should serve as proof that it was broken before I had opened it as it was clearly impossible to get it neatly back into the box after it was broken.
Vivian treated us in an unacceptable manner and it was humiliating.
