Woolworths RIDICULOUS exchange policy - food gifts

I received a gift, which was purchased from Woolworths containing food items. I attempted to exchange the gift at the Gateway store on 18/12/2013 I was advised by Zolani that as the item did not have its price tag in tact (which would have contained the expriy date) the item was not in saleable condition. He encouraged me the escalate this with Woolies customer helpline. Later I realised that the expiry date should not be on the outside of the box, rather it should be on the individual food items inside the hamper, so I opened the hamper to discover the sell by date perfectly in tact. I called the customer care line on 19/12/13 at first I was informed by Leila that the definition of saleable condition did not mean that an item needed to have its price tag attached. Later I was advised that despite the sell by date being in tact inside the food hamper it also needed to be intact on the outside and that it was not policy to exchange such items unless these were BOTH intact. I find this to be a ridiculous policy, by its very nature of a gift one would expect the price tag to be removed. I'm still waiting to hear back, but as a loyal Woolies customer I am extremely dissatisfied!!!
