Refusal to exchange gift item - store policy

I received a bathrobe as a gift. The tag was attached but the price was inked over. Have several robes already so went to store to swop for other item. Was told only size change possible. Apparently it is a Truworths policy. The store manager Kugan was adamant and unhelpful. This is stupid as Edgars, Woolworths, Foschini etc allow exchanges for other items as long as tag is intact without a gift receipt. Truworths needs to wake up and get with the times.
