Card payment

I was going to buy tennis ball this morning, paying by card. Twice they said the card didn't work. They were going to try again and I said 'no'. Walked out without purchasing. Later that morning I have SMSs to say payments had been made on my card and then reversals were also made!! What is wrong with the tills at the store? How can you do reversals without card? Who is going to pay for bank transactions when I didn't even make a purchase?
This is not the first time I have had a problem with this store. Advertising/ attitude leave a lot to be desired.
