Why promote products when you don't have stock?

On 2 occasions (Saturday 26th October and 2nd November) Pick n Pay Claremont has been promoting a Coffee making machine. At the promo counter a very nice service gentlemen has been promoting the coffee machine and products including handing out coffee samples. My question to you is why, on both occasions after making enquiries about purchasing the promotional items on offer that this Claremont branch has had no stock available.

What is the point of promoting a product that you do not have available to sell to customers in store?

Why bother???
