Account refusal

I made an account application to Edcon, after two weeks of no response, i followed it up and i was asked to wait for more than an hour whilst they check why i don't qualify for the account. I got a responsee afterwards and it was unsatisfactory, i was told that i did nit pay well the account that i opened with ABC shoes in the late 90s when i was still a student and the shop decided i will never get the account form them. coming to think of it its been more than 14 years and the info does not appear anywhere in my credit record . i was shocked and disappointed with the outcome because it is not anywhere in the act . i need an explanation form Edcon why they are punishing me for something that is more than a decade . i am not blacklisted or have any bad credit record at the moment
