Having to pay for something that cannot be reapire

Shops, Products, Services

Took in Panasonic breadmaker SD-255 (not working, bought from that exact store two years ago) in for repair.
Had to pay a R200 quote decline fee, which was explained as not refundable if I declined the repair quote, but would be offset against any repair costs.
Was contacted to come and pick the breadmaker up, and was told that Panasonic did not have spares, and the appliance could not be repaired. No quote was provided.
When I picked the breadmaker up, I requested a refund of the quote decline fee, as I had not been provided with a quote, and was told that this was non-refundable, even though the there were no spares available to repair the appliance, and no quote was provided for. I was also referred to small print on the booking sheet, which makes no mention at all of the quote fee. let alone that it is not refundable when the equipment could not be quoted on due to lack of service.
The key issue is that firstly, a recently bought top of the range appliance could not be serviced, and secondly that I needed to pay R200 for the pleasure of being told. this.
