How Can They Do That???

This morning I went to Shoprite in Rustenburg, It's the one on the corners of Pres Mbeki and Nelson Mandela Ave. I bought a few things and wanted pay with my debit card. The card declined my purchase, but the cashier did not even try another machine. She called over the supervisor (I suppose) and told her to do a balance enquiry on my account, without my permission??? How is this possible, and who gave her the permission to take that action. Since when is that possible for a Shoprite cashier to do that... Just wondering!!! So basically, if they can do a balance enquiry... they can withdraw money and make purchases as well without you even knowing!!! I told her straight out that she does not have the right to do it, and the reaction I got was a Huh... who do you think you are. What happened to client confidentiality. I was so mad at that lady, I was ready to blow up!! I will go to my band and ask them what their policy is towards EFT payments in a store and did they give them permission to do as they please on any clients account.
