Refusal to refund with unclear priced product

I understood verbally from the only staff member working that day, Sarah, that a certain product was R80, but upon receiving my debit card slip to sign, it was revealed that the product was in fact R180 (I have also not received a sales receipt, seen a till screen display/price tag or been handed the goods at this stage yet). I immediately requested a refund on this particular product (I bought 2 items, and planned to keep the other item). Sarah informed me that they can not refund debit cards (had I paid by credit card should would have been able to refund it to that card immediately). She/Rainbow also refused to give me cash back. The owner, Doris, was apparently at a meeting and hence unavailable/uncontactable at the time. After several attempts and messages to get hold of Doris (owner) via the store, she has to date not cared to return calls or offer assistance.
I declined a gift-card as I stay in Cape Town and it was not convenient.
I'm sure a refund was due in cash? (otherwise do not accept debit cards if your staff and/or system can't refund debit cards!)
