I entered into a contract with Chubb and advised the person I was contracting with that I had only a one year lease and needed the contract to run only one year. Chubb's leases are usually two years renewable and the lady then changed it to one year. As the contract is signed on site, I merely noted that it was changed to one year and signed. I did not notice that the renewal clause remained. This despite, I was paying by EFT & almost a year after the expiry of the one year contract Chubb for the first time (outside the initial contract - when I was invoiced monthly) forwarded me an invoice seeking another year's service fees (almost R 3000). When I contineously queried this, Chubb merely blacklisted me on the basis of a bad debt which was written off.
