An ADT technician visited my property on 18 December 2012 to attend to false alarm activations. He told my tenant that it would take days to trace the problem and after he fiddled with the Keypad for 7 minutes, he recommended a complete upgrade of the alarm system. ADT was quick to send a Sales Representative to quote for the system upgrade which was close to R11000. The upgrade was not at all necessary, because I had the problem fixed by an independent technician who took more than 2 hours to repair, and only charged me R627.00 for his services. All the technician did was to deactivate zone 6 of the alarm system, which I also find unacceptable. Instead of fixing the problem, he had put me at risk by deactivating one of the zones. Should there have been any attempted break-in, the alarm would not be triggered in this particular zone. I therefore find the debit of R473.97 on 28 December 2012 (for the call out and service) totally unacceptable and expect a full refund. After numorous attemps to speak to someone and also e-mails sent, ADT has not given me a satisfactory response regarding my request for a refund. Thabane called me on 31 January, but he has not come back to me since.
