ADT continue billing after Account is closed

I sent cancellation letter of my contract to ADT on 02 August 2012. ADT continue to bill me despite the fact I telephonically discussed this with a few of their Accounts ladies, e.g. Kantharubi Pillay. When I called, the ladies will tell me that the account is automatically system generated and I should ignored it as they are working on clearing my account. My bank account was kept on being billed and I reversed the payment as I did not want a drama of trying to claim the refund later. To my surprise, on 12 December 2013 I got a phone call from Nonhlanhla at Debtsource Credit control (011) 348 7010 telling me that my account of -R3000 has been handed over to them for collection. Apparently ADT only terminated my contract on 10 April 2013 since August 2012 the account was never terminated. This is really a bad service from ADT to continue to bill me and keep on saying they are working on my Account. Is this the way ADT treat their loyal customers? I had my Account with ADT back in 2007 until the date when I sent the cancellation letter and never skipped any payment. Is this the thank you note when you terminate contract with ADT or desperation to keep customers? Pathetic!!
