I will NEVER use ADT Security again!

We had spoken to the sales rep from ADT Bloemfontein and stressed our need to be able to cancel our subscription when necessary, and she had assured us it would be fine. When we called to cancel in October 2012, as we had sold the restaurant, they stated that we still were under contract until April 2014, we in turn told them that we had spoken to the sales rep and she had assured us that it wouldn't be a problem. 8 months later, countless phone calls and emails later, we are still paying, despite our complaints, as they say we are held by this contract. I was sure the consumer protection act protected people from this sort of ridiculous exploitation. Now after speaking to them yet again, they claim that in order to end the contract, we will be required to pay a penalty worked out according to what we owe until next April! The fact that they are forcing us into this situation has made me choose to never again use ADT Security. Customer service is terrible. Over 8 months we have had to contact these people to express our concern, and every time, I am sent from one person to another and I always end up feeling even more frustrated and to be honest, as though I am a hostage.
