Multichoice claims no after sales service on Walka

I'm querying a DSTV product Walka Model: VSP -H11; serial number: SPH4017428 & 4152401459.
I visited Multichoice offices on Friday 05.04.2013 @ 16:06 & was assisted by a Service consultant @ counter 82.
I explained that The Walka does not switch on even when on complete charge or while charging.
He claimed that due to the warranty been expired and there is no insurance on the Walka; there was no way for Multichoice to repair/replace the product.
I did exchange a few words and I'm still unable to understand how can you sell a product but offer no after sales service for the product.

Is it a matter of losing R 600 due to Multichoice not being able to repair the now defected device; where is the aftersales service?
I reviewed the terms and conditions & there is no clause in in Annexure that states I'm forced to take insurance to ensure the continuous support from Multichoice on their products.

An urgent response would be appreciated.
