Paying for a service I have not requested-Really?!

I did not pay for DSTV in October- purposefully because I did not want to watch it. i reconnected my account last week and I got a message that I owe dstv R231!! Apparently they kept it on for 9 extra days as an "incentive" the call center person I talked to says. But how on earth is that fair or legal?! I didn't request for DSTV for those 9 days. It was forcibly given to me and billed to my account without my knowledge and now I'm expected to pay for it else face cancellation. This is wrong and it must be against some consumer protection act.
