Got declined to rent our "dream" house

I saw a house I wished to rent, Newton Street 32, George South, contacted the agent, we immediately fell "in love" with the place, and filled in the paper work, provided 3 months bank statements, ID, Payslips etc, we did qualify according to affordability, paid R250 for credit check to be done. After this I found out I have 2 Judgments against my name at ABSA bank, dating back to 2010, which I was not aware of, I stopped working at Vodacom 2010 and had to give back company phone, so that means that they could not have contacted me at all, so I was un aware of the judgement, according to my knowledge it was paid up in full. nether the less I am dealing with ABSA regards to that. The agent (Sanet) told me, no worry, I just need to get an arrangement with ABSA and they will process our application for our dream house. We had to constantly phone, sms, leave messages to only get an answer 2 days later that we got declined, reason being, I was not upfront with them?? but I didn't know?? Seriously, it dated back, almost 4 years ago!! on the other hand, friends of mine, Sarel and Elna rented a house< Porter street 9 Denneoord, they are both blacklisted and Elna Judgement against her???
