SARS
Customers herded like sheep

On Wednesday I went to SARS in Doringkloof to submit supporting documents for personal tax. Instead of receiving the usual printed number and then waiting in the designated area, I was handed a hand written number (6) by a security guard, and shown to the customs waiting area. The whole room was full of people, many standing and some sitting on the floor. Some have, naturally, been there for hours. After more people were shown to the room, I went to enquire whether this was usual or exceptional. The security guard started yelling at myself and many other people in the room. There was NO order and people where ushered in there like sheep. Meanwhile, the normal waiting area had about 20 people waiting.

I would like to know why people where herded like sheep and treated with absolute indignity and disrespect by security guards while SARS's normal queuing system seemed to be working fine.
