In July 2012 I moved into a flat. I contacted the electricity department in August to tell them I hadn't received any electricity bills and could I confirm account details. The gentleman I spoke to told me that the account was still in the previous owners name. I asked him if he'd update it, he said sure. I still didn't receive bills after that. Then, in December my electricity got cut off. Again I contacted the electricity dept, asked what was going on to be told that they had notified me that it would be cut off. I had received no notifications. I also had received no accounts from them. I asked them who they'd sent the notifications to, they gave me the name of the previous owners but NONE of these notifications had appeared in my postbox. I had to pay an absolute fortune in backpay, and a fee to get my electricity reconnected. The following day, after it was reconnected, in my postbox was a letter saying my electricity would be disconnected dated the day before with an amount outstanding of money owed by the previous owners. I sent a letter to the ombudsman to complain, no response. They still haven't corrected my electricity account information, they overcharge. Bad service!!
