Cash only for custom duties

A parcel was six weeks late because of postal strike, When I went to collect it I had to pay custom fees. I wanted to pay with my debit card but was told that only cash was accepted. I asked the clerk why, in this age of technology, I had to pay cash. She did not know. I had no cash as I don't carry cash. I had to leave the parcel. It will cost me in time and petrol to return again for this parcel..WHY DO YOU ONLY ACCEPT CASH!!!
