Engen Petroleum
EBucks Mess-up

Cars & Transport

I normally retain my eBucks for fuel purchases.

During the morning I went to Engen Verwoerdpark to fill up and as at that time I only had R400 worth of ebucks I wanted to use. I filled up my tank and it came to more than the R400.

I asked the petrol attendant before hand is it fine if I paid the shortage seperately. He indicated that it was fine.

When I wanted to pay inside the shop the sales clerk told me this was not possible unless I paid cash first. I did not have cash with me at that stage and the only bank available close is an ABSA. Me being a client of FNB (hence the ebucks) was then forced to draw cash there. The banking charges are very high for this!!!

Then when I wanted to pay I explicitly told the sales clerk that only the portion above the R400 should be paid in cash. However he proceeded in taking all the cash (I only had large notes and not smaller denominations) and putting the remainder on the ebucks.

After expressing my dissatisfaction he scoffed at my being upset.

Why the attitude? And why not put up a sign saying that you cannot do 2 separate card swipes even if one is ebucks? And why should I carry the bank charges because of this?
