Heartbreaking experience with the SPCA

Miscellaneous

I recently moved house and as a result, my cat escaped from the room I was keeping her in and she ran away. I found that my cat had taken shelter in a nearby office park but I could not catch her. I approached the SPCA and they provided me with a cat trap. The inspector was very helpful, gave me tips on the most effective way to utilise the trap. I was told that I may not catch my cat but I may attract other feral cats and that if this was the case I should check the cat for markings on the ear as this would indicate that it has been sterilised and I could therefore release it. If the cat appeared to have no markings I should bring it in to be sterilised. On Sunday night I finally caught a cat, a kitten that must have been about 8-10 weeks old. I took it home for the night and took it to the SPCA the next day. I filled in a surrender form and when I asked what was going to be done with the kitten they informed me that it would be euthanized! I am so upset and feel that I was fed false information. If I had known before I had signed the form that kitten would have been put down I would have taken it right back. I feel responsible for the death of this little one. My heart is broken
