Adopted a kitten with bad case of ear mite

Miscellaneous

On 16/8/2013, we adopted two kittens from the Germiston SPCA. When we picked them up, I was told that they had been checked up by their on site vet, been vaccinated and dewormed.
The kittens had to settle at our house and on the 23th they finally came out of their room to be cuddled etc. That's when we noticed the one kitty was scratching his ears and shaking his head.By looking in his ears we saw loads of black stuff and we took them to the vet on Sat.morning early. Turned out to be a really bad case of ear mite, tht according to our vet has been there for quite a while. He needed immediate treatment, to prevent him from going deaf. We now also had to treat the other kitten and our 3 dogs. Vet bill: R868.All SPCA Germiston tells me now is that there's no vet on the premises and the kennel manager does the vaccinations etc. He told me literally that he doesn't know anything about ear mite, hence he didn't check their ears. On top of that, they told me that I should have taken the kittens back to the SPCA so that they could take them to the vet and they would have paid. We are really NOT impressed with the service that was delivered to us! This is supposed to be a animal welfare org...
