I signed up for a free 1 months subscription on the internet for a company called Smilebox. They 'sell' electronic invitations etc. You still have to supply a credit card number, even if the trial is free. I have since noticed that my credit card is being debited monthly with a different amount each time, having never again used this product. I have contacted their support team to have this account cancelled.
I have in the interim lost that credit card.
I have been told they can only cancel my account if I supply them with the credit card details in question, the date of the transaction, the amount in question, the credit card type, the card holder's details (which are my own) etc. Surely supplying them with my email address, full name and ID # (which was initially supplied) and a request to cancel this account should be enough.
Is it legal for them to debit your card after a FREE trial? Surely contacting them and requesting a cancelation with the information you provide should be sufficient?!
I am not satisfied with the way in which their Support team are handling my request. People out there, stay away from this product to avoid hassles at a later date.
