Advice on applying for a Patent

Darryn and I had what we thought was a really unique idea that we wanted to patent it. Darryn then advised that he had a friend at the then Bowman and Gillfilllin, that would be able to advise us how to move forward on this. We then went and met with Johnny Fiandeiro who advised us that they had this fancy software that would be able to do this Novelty search, and that all in all this would cost us R6000. Being totally new to this type of thing, and really excited about our idea, we agreed to let them do this search, only to find that I could have done the search myself using Google, which he could have rather advised us to do first, and then he could have just charged us for the 15 minutes we had together for the consultation.

Legally I know I do not have a leg to stand on, as we are up against a law firm, however morraly I have a problem paying for this kind of rip off. No wonder nobody patents any inventions in this country, when you have like these trying to take advantage of there customers.
