I have recently had a family member admitted into the hillcrest private hospital for an urgent spinal surgery under a neurosurgeon. The doctors involved were fantastic, the theatre staff were wonderful, and the High care/ICU staff were fantastic, caring and helpful.
My problem only begins in surgical ward 2. The staff are absent and unhelpful. Patients in our room (including my mother), have to call for nurses repeatedly for assistance, and to remind the nurses that they require medication. How is it acceptable for sick people to have to take care of themselves and struggle to obtain help when the hospital has staff for this very purpose. They loiter around their desk, and are generally unhelpful when posed with questions. Today, she developed an allergy and was prescribed a topical ointment to combat this- this occured at 10 this morning, and it is now past 4pm. No ointment has since arrived.
I do understand a public holiday, but a hospital of this calibre should be better stocked and organised for situations like these. After all, people do not mireculously become healthier on public holidays. The service is disproportionate to the fees charges, and I am quite disgusted.
