Shocking experience this evening. Had to have an ECG at emergency/casualty unit, because of heart cramps. After about an hours wait, was ushered to ressuscitation room. All seemed fine, clean white linen and generally clean looking. When I got up from hospital/examination bed, there was a large patch of wet blood. I certainly had not been bleeding. It transpired that a previous patient must have bled profusely, the linen obviously removed but the plastic matress not cleaned and new linen simply put over it before my arrival; when I lay on new linen old blood oozed through linen and contaminated my clothes and body. Nursing sister only slightly surprised, offered a meek apology and did not offer to clean me with antiseptic. Supposed to be a clean, hygienic establishment where one receives treatment with humanity and in comfort. I received the opposite- appalling treatment in filthy and unhygienic conditions and was extremely traumatised by this ghastly experience. BEWARE- what infections one might contract in this establishment is SCARY! I wont be back and I am sure many others who read this. My husband contracted an infection there last year, now I understand why!!!
