Last year around July/August, HE contacted my partner, who has a platinum membership with them. HE was offering car hire vouchers to its members, these vouchers were purported to allow one to hire a car in group B or C for free, which could be used in conjunction with an upgrade voucher which allowed you to upgrade your free rental to any group between L and B as well as between D and K. My partner paid an amount over R2000 for the vouchers and these were posted to him by HE.

When we attempted to make use of one of the voucher and were informed by First car hire that we were not entitled to an upgrade beyond group C- so we could hire group B and upgrade to group C. For your ease of reference the link for the vehicle group is: [URL Removed]

Issue (s):

What HE is failing to understand is that when they offered the vouchers under certain and conditions and the offer was accepted on those terms and conditions, they cannot unilaterally change these conditions without the express consent of the other. My concern here is that these vouchers were probably sold to hundreds of individuals, under false pretence.
