Discovery Health
Not authorising operation in hospital

Health & Medicine

My husband went to see a specialist who advised that he needs to have a neck operation as he has the neck of a 70 year old man. X-Rays were taken and the specialist advised he needs to have surgery.

After much discussion, many emails etc, Discovery asked a lot of questions, after which I was told, we'd be advised of the outcome of this.

I advised Discovery telephonically of the answers to the questions, and to my surprise, was told they would not authorise the surgery.

I feel this is very unfair. We pay a lot for medical aid monthly and this is the help we get?

My husband is in a lot of pain and the specialist is not stupid... he can read x-rays.

I am very unhappy about this. We have medical aid for a reason. We cannot afford an operation like this out of our pockets... so, I ask you, what are we supposed to do?
