Totally unhelpful and pointless

I called discovery to get authorisation for my 6 week old to see a pediatrician for his check up. I was told I need a referral from my Gp. My Gp is unavailable until 12 January. I call discovery back and explain my predicament. I'm told they can load a second Gp, but that will only be approved on Feb 1st. So my 6 week old should just wait? I ask to speak to someone in a senior position, I then get put on hold for 10min. I then speak to a 3rd person who then tells me, even if I see a gp I WON'T get authorisation, because it's a check up! So in other words I shouldn't take my baby to get checked out to insure he is ok after being born! What is the point of having a specialist benefit if I don't have access to it? It's a run around at Discovery, no problem taking my payment each month, but not willing to help a mother take care of her new baby. Thanks for nothing. Now I must pay the pediatrician cash as well as my medical aid payment. Something seriously wrong with this picture! I DO NOT want a cookie cutter reply/excuse. If you are not willing to help me with a solution, don't bother contacting me!
