CAN'T GET AUTHORISATION FOR SPECIALIST CONSULT

MY GP HAS ADVISED THAT DISCOVERY GIVES THEM HASSLES WHEN THEY REFER PATIENTS TO SPECIALISTS. MY CHILD 4 YEARS OLD HAS A VIRAL INFECTION AND WAS DIAGNOSED ON MONDAY BY MY GP AND AS AT TODAY HE STILL HAS A HIGH TEMP AND BAD CHESTY COUGH. MY GP ADVISES THAT DISCOVERY QUESTIONS THEM AS TO WHAT TREATMENT THEY OFFERED ETC WHEN THEY TRY TO REFER US TO THE PAEDIATRICIAN. TODAY I HAVE TO TAKE HIM FOR XRAYS, GP WILL THEN SEND THAT OFF TO DISCOVERY AS PROOF THAT HE HAS DONE ALL HE COULD TO ASSIST, THEN HE WILL SEND THROUGH A REQUEST FOR SPECIALIST CONSULT. THAT WILL TAKE ANOTHER 24 TO 48 HOURS FOR AUTHORISATION. IT HAS NOW GONE 3 DAYS AND WILL BE ANOTHER DAY OR 2 BEFORE MY BABY CAN BE ATTENDED TO BY A SPECIALIST. MY QUESTION IS, I DO HAVE THE BENEFIT AVAILABE. WHY MUST I GO THROUGH ALL THESE HASSLES AND WAITING PERIOD IN ORDER TO SEE THE SPECIALIST. WHY ARE WE PAYING OUR PREMIUMS. IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO MY CHILD, I WILL PERSONALLY HOLD DISCOVERY ACCOUNTABLE.
