The problem started when gems failed to notify us of pending arrears due to employer contributions not being paid. My wife the main member made numerous calls and emails to Barbara at gems trying to resolve the problem. It was finally resolved or so we thought. She conveniently forgot to tell my wife that the arrears must be paid in manually thus the medical aid was suspended at a time when one of the members needed a heart operation. We kept on paying the members contributions and made manual payments on the arrears as agreed, the suspension was lifted just to get a letter from the hospital demanding payment of R45000.00 cash because according to the hospital the medical aid was suspended at the time they claimed. When we made attempts to contact Barbara she was not available. When we phone we always get place on hold and it can take anything from 15 to 30 minutes to speak to a consultant and the caller pay the bill. The last consultant Is spoke to, Kristy did not know their manager's contact details. The bills are piling up and gems don't seem to care. Please advise as to how we can solve this problem.
