Medihelp
PMBs to be obtained at State Facilities

Health & Medicine

Just to bring to everybody's attention a heinous move on behalf on Medihelp - received their scheme changes for 2014 which now requires that members on the cheaper "Network" option of their Scheme plans have to obtain PMB Chronic Medicines from State Facilities in 2014. Cost limits could easily have been accomplished by imposing limits on the costs of medicines obtained at regular service providers with a co-payment for the balance, but by forcing network scheme members to obtain chronic meds from State Facilities, they are forcing their hand in getting those members to upgrade to the non-network option and boosting the scheme profits regardless of their members conditions. If the scheme gets a PMB claim from a non-State facility, they will AUTOMATICALLY upgrade you at the extra cost to the non-network option from the next month. If you want to use a non-network option for PMB Chronic meds, you have to pay cash at DisChem. The whole point of medical aid is to avoid State Facilities at all costs. Shame on you MediHelp, my parents whom this will effect are pensioners and cannot just afford to upgrade. This has also been escalated to the relevant Ombudsman.
