My property belong to the hotel

I booked a room for a night at the hotel in march 2013. I forgot my valuables in a safe I called to inform them, they agreed and I told them I wil fetch them at a later stage. They agreed and when I went there they loooked for an hour, after they said they can't find them and the housekeeping supervisor is off and they can't find the keys. I left unders the impression that Portia who worked at the reception promised to call and tel me that they found my things. I waited and waited until today. Can this be investigated
